Abstract: Cooperative communication is one of the most efficient ways to improve reliability of wireless links. We introduce linear network coding into multi-user cooperative communication system, and propose a new cooperating protocol. In the first phase, each user in the cooperative communication system transmits its own data, because of broadcast nature of wireless channel, the other users can overhear this data; in forwarding phase, each cooperating user encodes all the data from the other users and its own data together by linear network coding, and forwards this coded packet. Theoretical analysis and simulation show that, compared to traditional protocol based on XOR-network-coding, our protocol can achieve higher diversity order and lower system outage probability. 1553-9105/Copyright © 2012 Binary Information Press.
