| English Abstract | A prototype of Model-Based Design tool called MoDAL is developed for enabling the design of heterogeneous systems in a hierarchical environment. MoDAL is constructed in the framework of Generic Modeling Environment and it can be used to form a toolchain among Simulink, Ptolemy II and some other Model-Based Design tools. In MoDAL, models can be made heterogeneous by having them designed in MoDAL or imported from Simulink and the interactions among models can be organized hierarchically by properly mixing various Models of Computation. The models in MoDAL can be exported to Ptolemy II. In the case study, an Electronic Control Unit model is used to demonstrate how a model designed in Simulink can be imported into MoDAL and then exported to Ptolemy II for performing code generation. Model-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop simulations of the Electronic Control Unit model are presented. © 2011 IEEE.; A prototype of Model-Based Design tool called MoDAL is developed for enabling the design of heterogeneous systems in a hierarchical environment.
