AbstractThe thesis first makes a survey of volume rendering in 3-D data field, and discusses various techniques in this area. After introducing the state of the art in ViSC, the paper has given an estimation for the future development of techniques this fields. A new method has been proposed for the color composition in volume rendering. The method takes off multiplication operation in the process of compositing colors, in terms of a newly proposed concept of virtual plane. When the new method is integrated with the projection method for volume rendering, interpolations can be operated images with different sizes conveniently. The footprints used in the splatting method for volume rendering are discussed, and two principleys, the shape compactness for geometric space of footprints, and the distribution balance of footprint influence in grometric space are also discussed.
